Geography of heart: Iran, 2026
Geography of Heart: Iran reimagines the world through a Bonne projection centred on Iran, placing the country at the geographic and symbolic heart of the composition. Using the colours of the Iranian flag—green, white, and red—the artwork draws upon themes of growth, peace, courage, and cultural identity. Concentric 1,000-kilometre distance buffers radiate from Iran and gradually form a heart shape at the global scale, transforming a cartographic process into a symbol of connection and shared humanity.
The work carries a dual meaning: it can be read as the expansion of love, culture, and human values from a single place outward to the world, while also representing the world’s affection, empathy, and connection converging back toward a single place. Inspired by Iranian philosophy, poetry, and traditions of hospitality and humanism, the artwork reflects a reciprocal relationship between place and planet, suggesting that humanity is bound together through mutual understanding, belonging, and care that flows in both directions.
