Resilient Heart, 2024
Resilient Heart (2024) is a contemporary environmental map art piece exploring Earth’s interconnected landscapes, environmental resilience and humanity’s responsibility for the planet. Created through layered cartography, the artwork transforms geographic information into a heart-shaped composition using the Bonne map projection, symbolising the relationship between nature, human activity and environmental change.
The artwork was developed as a uniquely crafted base screen, combining representations of landforms, cities and oceans. Selected geographic layers were carefully burned and revealed, creating a textured composition that reflects the vulnerability of Earth’s natural systems and the consequences of human intervention.
Resilient Heart was exhibited at the Webb Gallery in January–February 2025, accompanied by two environmental videos: Agroecology: Joining the Dots Between Climate Change, Land Degradation, and Biodiversity Loss and Climate Change Impacts on Biodiversity. These works explore the interconnected challenges of climate change, ecological degradation and biodiversity loss, while highlighting opportunities for environmental restoration and sustainable practices.
Together, the artwork and videos demonstrate how GeoArt can translate complex environmental information into visual and emotional experiences, encouraging public awareness, ecological responsibility and a deeper connection with Earth’s changing landscapes.
