AUS as One

This artwork explores the boundaries of Australia’s local government areas (LGAs) and cities, superimposed on the landforms of the country, offering a visual commentary on the relationship between modern administrative divisions and the ancient landscape governed by First Nations peoples for millennia. Using the colors of Australia’s national flag—red, white, and blue—it symbolises unity and national identity while acknowledging the complex layers of history and the ongoing reconciliation process. The phrase “Always Was, Always Will Be” is strategically placed throughout, emphasising the continuous connection of Indigenous peoples to the land and the need for reconciliation. The piece calls for broader recognition of Indigenous sovereignty and underscores the ongoing need for dialogue and collaboration between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, highlighting reconciliation as a journey toward a more inclusive future.
