Iran's episode 1: Farvahar, 2024
Farvahar (2024) is a contemporary Persian cartographic artwork exploring the relationship between Iran’s geography, cultural identity and ancient Persian symbolism. Through layered mapping and spatial composition, the work reinterprets the Farvahar as a visual expression of continuity, heritage and belonging.
Drawing on historical Persian values and contemporary GIS mapping, the artwork integrates Iran’s landforms, hydrological systems and geographical patterns with the symbolic language of the Farvahar. These overlapping layers create a dialogue between the physical landscape and the cultural meanings associated with it.
The Farvahar, an enduring symbol associated with Zoroastrian tradition and Persian cultural heritage, becomes a framework for examining the relationship between geography, identity and collective memory.
Through GeoArt, the work transforms geographical information into an artistic composition, connecting ancient symbolism with contemporary cartographic representation. Rather than treating maps solely as instruments of spatial analysis, Farvahar explores their potential to communicate cultural narratives and emotional connections to place.
